Ausangate Trek the true image of the high Andes as the Incas worshiped the mountains. Apu Ausangate is located in the Cordillera Vilcanota (20,807ft). In our trek we cross spectacular passes, explore a radiant landscape below enormous snow-capped peaks and glaciers. Ausangate is a stronghold of traditional Quechua culture with minimal world immersion. The native people live at 14,000 ft tending their herds of llamas and alpacas surrounded by colorful glacial lakes, deep red cliffs and relaxing hot spring with Andean atmosphere. You will also have a good chance of encountering condors, the largest flying bird in the world and Andean fauna such as viscacha, andean fox and vicuña, practically extinct elsewhere. Although you will be hiking at altitudes of 12,467ft. You will be acclimatized gradually, the trek is considered moderate. Ausangate is one of the highest mountain in south of Peru.

Ausangate Mountain and Machu Picchu

12 days / 11 nights

Day 1: Arrival to Lima

After the International flight from Home you will arrive in Lima, where our representative will be waiting for you and transfer you to your hotel.
Stay overnight at Hotel Casa Andina Miraflores, or Similar.

Day 2: Lima – Cusco – Free Day

Morning flight to Cusco, at 11,023 ft. Capital of the Inca Empire. Here you’ll meet your guide for your Cusco tour at the Cusco airport pickup and be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax, and get use to the altitude, feel free to enjoy the charming city of Cusco and visit the suggested Museums.
Overnight at the Hotel Casa Andina Private Collection, or similar.

Day 3: Cusco – City Tour

After breakfast at the Hotel, you will have a morning guided tour to visit the historic sites of Cusco, the colonial Cathedral and the impressive Santo Domingo Church. We will then transfer you to the nearby Archeological sites of Sacsayhuaman with its megalithic stone Walls; Qenqo, with its carved stone surfaces and subterranean altars; and the water temple Tambo Machay. Drive back to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 4: Cusco – Tinki – Upis

This day we leave Cusco early in the morning, to the south east of the city towards the community of Tinki (12,136Ft.), the drive will take 3 hours, here we will meet our crew for our next adventure, after 3 hours of walk approx. we will stop for lunch, here we will contemplate a great view of the highest snow covered mountain of Cusco Ausangate after some rest we begin the trek through a dry climate with little vegetation for another 2 hours before we reach our camp site Upis (13,776 Ft.).

Day 5: Upis – mountain Ausangate Cocha

After a delicious breakfast prepared by our chef, we’ll begin our day with a hike for approximately 4 hours until we reach Arapa the first pass (15,908 fts.), with breathtaking views, after taking some pictures we’ll begin our descent, where our crew will be waiting with lunch, then we’ll continue along paths, going through three beautiful lakes: Yanacocha, HatunPukacocha and Qomerqocha. On our path we will also see many snow peaks and then begin the hike up towards the second pass, the opening of Apuchata (16,072ft.), and at last another 45 minutes of descent until we reach our camp site Ausangate Cocha (14,563 Ft.).

Day 6: Mountain Ausangate Cocha – Jampa

Today with an early start the walk begins with a two hour climb to get to the third pass Palomani (17,056ft.) the highest pass of the hike, then we head down for another two hours here we’ll find many South American Camels such as Llamas and Alpacas, and also again many snow peaks, lunch at Pampa (13,850ft.) and them we go to our last camp site Jampa (14,104ft.) takes approx. 3 hours.

Day 7: Jampa – Pacchanta

After breakfast walk for approx. 2 hours to get to step Jampa (16,400ft), then descend approx. 5 hours to the lake and then come up Qomercocha Pacchanta (14,104ft.), this is a small community with amazing hot springs, which we’ll enjoy.

Day 8: Pacchanta – Tinki – Cusco

This day is our last of our adventure around Ausangate mountain, after three hours of hiking we will arrive to Tinki , where our driver will pick us up and drive us back to Cusco. Overnight at the hotel Casa Andina Private Collection or similar.

Day 9: Cusco – Sacred Valley of the Incas

This will be a long guided excursion journeying through the magnificent Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop will be at the llama farm, here you will have the chance to admire the different species of South American Camelot Such us Llamas, Alpacas, and Vicuñas. After which we will make a short stop at the Taray view point from where we will take pictures of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Along the way, your tour guide will take you past Inca terracing that climbs steep valleys into Pisaq another amazing Inca City. After our visit to the archeological site, we will have time to explorer the traditional and colorful Market of Pisaq, one of the best textile markets in the Andes. There, you’ll be able to look for souvenirs and learn about the local culture, lunch here and then we have a beautiful ride along the Sacred Valley. The next stop is Ollantaytambo at 9,200 ft. This is a small town with impressive Inca remains.
Stay overnight at the Hotel Pakaritampu, or similar.

Day 10: Sacred Valley – Trek Machu Picchu

Morning, transfer from your hotel to the train Station at Ollantaytambo where you will take the train ride to the Machu Picchu town (Aguas Calientes) at 7000 ft. The scenery during the ride down the Urubamba Valley changes from mountain vegetation to cloud forest. Arrival at the train station after 2 hours, check in to the Hotel and then Lunch, after which we will take a half hour bus ride that will bring you to the mountain citadel of Machu Picchu (8,040 ft.). Once here, your Guide will give you an afternoon guided tour at the Citadel, return to Aguas Calientes town by bus at time of your choice. Stay overnight in the town of Aguas Calientes, at El Mapi Hotel or similar.

Day 11: Tours Machu Picchu – Tour Cusco

On our second day at Machu Picchu we will have the opportunity to climb to the famous Wayna Picchu peak or the Sacred Machu Picchu peak for a perfect view of the entire Inca City, Lunch at the town of Aguas Calientes before the train ride back to the Sacred Valley and Cusco. Overnight stay at Casa Andina, Private Collection or Similar.

Day 12: Tour Cusco – Lima – Home

After a Delicious breakfast you will be transferred to the Airport in Cusco where you will take your flight to Lima, and Home.
